Joseph Shumate – Nonprofit Leader, Arts Advocate, Equity Activist

Welcome to my website, I’m glad you’re here! That means you’re probably interested in learning more about me, where I’ve been, and what I’m doing.

My name is Joseph, I go by Joe. I am first and foremost an artist. Always have been. I started my career in the arts at the tender age of seven when I took my first ballet class. Fast forward thirty-some-odd years and a successful arts career and you see the man sitting before you: a nonprofit professional with a Masters in Nonprofit Leadership & Management, and extensive experience in communications, marketing, public relations, and development.

You may be asking, “How the heck did you get from ballet to that?” It’s a long story, but suffice it to say that it was a natural progression and a journey that I absolutely loved.

Today, I live in San Diego, CA with my wife and two children. My goal is to work for organizations in whose missions I believe, and to make a real difference in the communities in which I live, work, and play. We all have a duty to leave the world at least little bit better than we found it.

Oh, and remember, life is too important to be taken seriously. So, make sure you have a little fun while you’re making a difference.

Wishing you love, laughter, and life,
Joe
